Kaden Harter of Brunswick, OH had a very successful weekend at the Inaugural Indy Karting Classic held inside the famed Conseco Field House downtown Indianapolis, Indiana on December 11th. This being the first time he would compete on his Grand Products/CRP Racing sponsored Top Kart package and also his first time racing indoors in his short 6 year career.
“When I first walked into the arena and saw the course layout, I knew there was going to be allot of tight wheel to wheel racing and felt that more than likely, lap traffic would come into play at the end.” “My goal was to try and qualify well and hopefully get a great start and stay up front”, said the young Pilot.
After three rounds of practice and many chassis setup changes Andrew Borelli (Driving Coach/Tuner) thought he had found a pretty good starting point that would put Kaden towards the front, but felt strongly that tire and grip management would be the key factor for the day. Kaden would go out and qualify in the fourth spot, .4 tenths of the pole sitter. After a few more adjustment it would be time for his heat race where he would start on the outside pole. Kaden quickly put his Top Kart out in front at the drop of the green flag and never looked back. Battling through lap traffic towards the end of his run, he managed to put an eight second lead on the field when he took the checkered flag.
The combination of his qualifying position and his dominating performance in the heat would have him starting outside pole for the 20 lap feature and after receiving some last minute advice and words of encouragement from Indy Driver Josef Newgarden (who was also in a Top Kart for the weekend) he was ready to go.
At the drop of the green Kaden made a late apex move that would give him the lead in turn three and he started to leave the rest of the field and held that lead until lap number 5 when he caught lap traffic and was passed by the second and third place karts. He would catch back up and regain second place on lap twelve but by then the leader was way out in front and lap traffic and spinning karts were too frequent for him to have enough clear track to try and make a run for the win.
“It was great experience and I was very happy with my results, allot of firsts for me in this race and I had a great time.” Said Kaden. His next stop will be the first round of the WKA Manufactures Cup in Daytona Florida, December 28-30th.
Kaden would like to thank all his sponsors for all their hard work and continued support; Grand Products, the entire crew at CRP Racing, Bad Boy Brands, Worldwide Bearings, Oakley, One Race Gear, Rising Start Motorsports, Burris Racing, and Comet Kart Sales.
